For sake of arguement let's assume that you and Joe and I each pay $100 in taxes. Let's us assume that I don't want to pay for the military and you don't want to pay for abortion and Joe doesn't want to pay for bank bailouts. All they have to do is say that my taxes went into accounts that pay for abortions and bank bailouts, yours went into the military and bank bail out account, and Joe's went into the military and abortion account. Net result, no change in funding, just more bureaucratic paperwork. That has been done with other non-governmental fundraising dollars.
ReplyDeleteThat could be one result. At least then your money isn't being used for something you don't want - even if someone else's money is.
ReplyDeleteThen again - we might all decide not to fund bank bailouts.
I have had this idea for years and wish we could vote what we wanted with our taxes paid! Of course, they would never do that but it would make us feel better. But, then there's the enormous deficit that keeps growing. They would probably keep spending for what they want since they are really spending our grandchildren's money.
